Aston le Walls

pic of MY LUCKY DAY at Barbury

Our next event was Aston le Walls with Judy Kunkler and Alex and Tim Haggard’s MAGIFIQUE VD DOORNHAAG (Maggie) in the Intermediate and Sarah Hughes MY LUCKY DAY (Lucky) and Rebecca Salt’s and Caroline Harris’s BAYANO (Barney) both in the Open Intermediate.

Maggie kicked us off really well leading the dressage with a score of 24. She slightly struggled in the surface at Aston so sadly picked up 12 faults show-jumping but gave me another confident spin cross-country feeling really keen at only her second attempt at the INT level.

Lucky was once again solid in the dressage to score 38 – slowly we feel his brain is improving as he becomes more supple and softer through his body. He is certainly a work in progress but overall we are thrilled with how he is coming on. He jumped absolutely brilliantly for a double clear inside the time; he really is such a fantastic cross-country horse who just eats up the ground and travels so well.

It was lovely to have Bayano’s owner there at Aston for her first time watching him this season – Barney certainly knew he had to be on his best behaviour and scored a very competitive 28 and jumped a lovely double clear inside the time to finish 2nd!
